The volcanic zone of the “Garrotxa” and the “Fageda d’en Jordà” forest
Castellfollit de la Roca, Girona, EspañaThe Volcanic Zone of the “Garrotxa” is the best example of volcanic landscape of the Iberian Peninsula and one of the most important in Europe. It was declared Natural Park in 1982 because of the National Interest of its preservation. The park extends over 12.000 hectares, of which thirty-eight volcanic cones have been counted. The territory extends from the 200m height where you can find the village of “Castellfollit de la Roca” to the summit of 1.100m called “Puigsallança” that is a culminating point of the “Finestres” mountain range.
The”Fageda d’en Jordà” is the most beautiful forest of the area, especially in autumn. This is a deep forest with old trees. You can see the beauty of this forest through the colors and light all mixed in a quiet environment like in a sanctuary.
